John Quincy Adams: 1828 Campaign Make-up Kit. 5” x 3 1/2” x 2 1/2” pasteboard box issued in the contest against Andrew Jackson. Normally seen as a sewing box, this is the hardly-ever-seen make-up box. The lid (detached, as is typical) has a fabric insert with gold foil paper trim surrounding it. The insert is inscribed “Victory For Adams” with crossed American flags and wreaths. The colors are unusually strong with little, if any wear… just normal “dusting”. An engraved portrait of “John Q. Adams” appears under the lid, covered in glass. The interior has a ceramic “pot” for make-up. There is some chipping to the rim of the pot, some fissures to the raised interior platform and minor loss to the gold paper foil trim on the lid. The overall condition is quite good.
