This bust was created for Lafayette's visit to America in 1824-1825. The permanent collection at the James Monroe Museum in Fredricksburg, Virginia, owns another example. Monroe was President of the United States during Lafayette's tour and was also a close friend of Lafayette since the time of the American Revolution.
