James K. Polk Ceramic Book Flask - Bennington Pottery

A rare ceramic book flask produced during the presidential campaign of James K. Polk, finished in a rich green flint glaze imitating marbleized stone. Molded in the form of a bound volume, the spine is inscribed “J. Polk,” combining practical form with political commemoration in a distinctly American ceramic tradition associated with Bennington pottery.
 
Decorative ceramic objects associated with Polk are notably rare, particularly examples dating to the 1844 campaign itself. The present flask reflects the inventive character of mid-nineteenth-century pottery production while preserving an uncommon form of early presidential campaign material culture.
 
Condition: Very fine, with minor scattered roughness along the molded page edge from the original firing process; no significant condition issues.
