“Landing of Gen. Lafayette” Historical Staffordshire Platter

A large blue transfer-printed historical Staffordshire platter commemorating Lafayette’s arrival in New York Harbor on August 16, 1824, depicting Castle Garden crowded with spectators, naval vessels in procession, and artillery salutes announcing the General’s celebrated return. The central view, titled Landing of Gen. Lafayette at Castle Garden in New York 16th August 1824, is enclosed within a richly ornamented floral border, combining patriotic subject matter with one of the most dramatic harbor scenes produced for the American market during Lafayette’s triumphal tour.
