George and Martha Washington: Outstanding Pair of 19th Century Hand-painted Paris Porcelain Urns. Possibly intended for use as vases, they are elegantly formed and decorated, and in beautiful condition. Height of each is 9 1/4", no maker's mark. Paris porcelain objects are perhaps the most sought-after and valuable of china pieces honoring American presidents and historical figures. We are aware of a private sale of a pair of large urns picturing Andrew Jackson and Lafayette at well above $100,000, as well as a recent private sale of a James Monroe at the $50,000 level.
Date: Circa 1850-1875.
It's listed in David Arman's Book on Anglo-American Ceramics, p.256 AIII.46.
