Washington, Lincoln & Grant
Handsome and well-done copper and brass plaque with raised heads of Washington, Lincoln, and Grant, all are facing left, surrounded by a circular border of 37 stars. Titled "Triumviri Americani" (American Commissioners), it is captioned below: "Pater 1789. Salvator 1861. Custos 1869." (Father, Savior, Watchman). The plaque was likely issued at the time of Grant's first inauguration as President in 1869. Excellent condition and retains all 37 stars. This is only the second example we have seen that is complete with its original surface, housed in the original, deeply-recessed mahogany frame and not signed nor marked as to manufacturer.
