An exceptional pearlware pitcher commemorating major American naval victories of the War of 1812, printed with three bold transfers celebrating the young republic’s martial identity. One side depicts “The Constitution Escape from the British Squadron after a Chase of sixty hours,” showing the famed frigate and attendant vessels in a dramatic naval engagement; the reverse shows “Commodore Macdonough’s Victory on Lake Champlain Sept. 11th, 1814,”memorializing one of the war’s decisive inland battles. Centered beneath the spout is a striking eagle transfer with shield, arrows, olive branch, and the motto E Pluribus Unum, uniting the surrounding scenes within a distinctly national iconography.
 
Produced in England for the American market, the pitcher transforms recent military triumph into a richly graphic commemorative object, pairing two of the war’s most celebrated naval subjects with one of the earliest enduring emblems of American nationhood.
