Important Kent State “Unite Now” Anti–Vietnam War Poster
Screenprint, 1970 - 21¾ x 15½ inches
A rare protest poster produced in the immediate aftermath of the Kent State shootings, incorporating the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph by John Filo. The image, depicting Mary Ann Vecchio kneeling beside the body of Jeffrey Miller, is paired with the stark caption “Unite Now,” transforming the widely circulated press photograph into a direct call for protest during the escalating national response to the Vietnam War.
Printed as a hand-pulled screenprint on thin stock, the poster reflects the rapid dissemination of visual material following the events of May 4, 1970, when Filo’s photograph was transmitted through the Associated Press and quickly became one of the defining images of the era. Produced in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, examples embody the urgency and visual language of student protest movements of the period.
Condition: Excellent, with a light horizontal fold at upper left; light handling wear.
