George B. McClellan Portrait Campaign Ribbon
1864 - 2 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches
A scarce silk campaign ribbon issued for the 1864 Democratic presidential ticket of George B. McClellan and George H. Pendleton. Printed in blue on pink silk, the ribbon features a bold bust portrait of McClellan within an oval medallion above the inscription, "McClellan and Pendleton." The striking contrast of blue printing against the pink silk creates one of the more visually appealing campaign ribbons of the Civil War era.
McClellan portrait ribbons are uniformly rare and seldom encountered on the market. The small number of known portrait ribbons all employ this same engraved likeness with only minor design variations. The present example retains excellent color, original silk sheen, and presents as an especially attractive survivor.
Condition: Horizontal folds with minor soiling at the extreme top. Fold lines are generally faint, with a more pronounced central fold. Otherwise an excellent example retaining full silk sheen and strong color.
