A rare pro-Confederate illustrated bifolium letter sheet featuring the notorious "Hanging Lincoln" design, produced in Nashville during the Civil War. The dramatic allegorical composition depicts Abraham Lincoln suspended upside down from a tree limb, weighted by an axe and a split fence rail, beneath a Confederate flag. Below, a Confederate soldier tramples the United States flag while accompanying verse condemns Lincoln as the destroyer of the Union. One of the most visually arresting and overtly partisan Confederate propaganda designs issued during the war.
 
Letter sheets bearing this design are seldom encountered. Matching illustrated envelopes are also known, with postally used examples achieving significant prices at auction, underscoring the rarity and desirability of this celebrated Confederate political image.
