Harrison & Reform Sulphide Campaign Brooch
American, circa 1840 - 1 x ⅞ inches
A finely preserved sulphide campaign brooch bearing the slogan “Harrison & Reform,” centered with a molded image of a log cabin, emblematic of the presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison. Encased within its original gilt metal frame, the brooch reflects the period’s inventive use of sulphide imagery in wearable political objects.
Combining refined manufacture with effective visual messaging, the present example stands among the more appealing survivals of early American campaign jewelry.
