The chromolithographed cover features a striking allegorical landscape centered on the palmetto tree, with Charleston Harbor beyond and a brilliant red lone star symbolizing South Carolina's claim to independent nationhood. An embossed stamp of Charleston music dealer George F. Cole appears at lower right. Complete with eight pages of music.
 
Issued in the months immediately preceding the Civil War, the Grand Secession March ranks among the most iconic examples of Confederate precursor music and visual propaganda.
