Modeled with quiet confidence and restraint, the figure captures the modern soldier in a moment of poised stillness, his broad-brimmed campaign hat, field gear, and relaxed stance conveying both immediacy and resolve.
 
Executed at the close of the First World War, the sculpture reflects the emergence of the American doughboy as one of the defining martial images of the twentieth century.
