A scarce early copper engraving depicting a frontal view of the President’s House in Washington. The composition, after a drawing by George Catlin and engraved by I. L. Frederick, presents the White House in a restrained architectural view characteristic of early nineteenth-century American printmaking. Issued by Philadelphia publisher P. Price, Jr. for his literary periodical The Casket, the image reflects the growing national fascination with the capital and its civic monuments during the early decades of the republic.
 
Engravings of the President’s House from this period are comparatively scarce, particularly those produced for illustrated periodicals, making the present example an appealing representation of the early iconography of the American presidency.
