Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul & Mary Carnegie Hall Concert Handbill / Mailer
New York, 1963
5 ½ x 8 ½ inches
An original concert handbill and mailing piece promoting two landmark Carnegie Hall appearances: Peter, Paul & Mary on September 28 and Bob Dylan on October 26, 1963. Issued by promoter Harold Leventhal, the attractive two-sided piece features photographic portraits of the performers, with the reverse printed as a mailing envelope for ordering tickets.
Of particular significance is the announcement for Dylan’s October 26 appearance, his first Carnegie Hall concert, held as his career was rapidly moving beyond the Greenwich Village folk scene. The performance included many of the songs that would define his early work, including “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” “Masters of War” and “The Times They Are A-Changin’.” The concert was recorded by Columbia, with portions subsequently released on several official Dylan recordings.
Condition: Very good, with light handling and age toning.
