General Lafayette Commemorative Ring

An extremely rare commemorative ring inscribed “La Fayette Landed in New York August 1824,” produced to celebrate Lafayette’s celebrated return tour of the United States. The split band appears to have been intended as adjustable, a practical feature seen on other early nineteenth-century commemorative rings made for public wear. Comparable rings are known honoring figures such as Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, and Henry Clay, though no directly comparable Lafayette example has been identified.
 
Condition: Fine; slightly out of round, consistent with its adjustable form.
