International Socialists Revolutionary Portrait Button Collection
1968 - Designed by Lisa Lyons
1 3/4 inches
A striking collection of twenty pinback buttons featuring portraits of historical figures associated with socialism, labor, anti-imperialism, Black liberation, and revolutionary movements. The designs pair boldly rendered portraits with slogans including “Workers Control,” “Black Power,” “Freedom Now,” “Bread and Roses,” “Power to the People,” and “Permanent Revolution,” representing the radical political culture of the late 1960s. Designed by Lisa Lyons for the Independent Student Club, the buttons were produced in several day-glow color variations. Rarely is a collection of this series offered in all in the same color, making this white-background group particularly appealing.
