Engraved portrait of John Jay issued in London by R. Wilkinson as part of a series depicting prominent American statesmen following the close of the Revolutionary War. Jay served as one of the principal diplomats negotiating the Treaty of Paris (1783) and later became the first Chief Justice of the United States.
