The composition links Lafayette directly with one of the most hallowed sites of the American Revolution, reinforcing his enduring association with the founding generation and the memory of the conflict in which he played so prominent a role.
 
Issued during Lafayette’s celebrated return visit to the United States in 1824–1825, ribbons of this type served as widely distributed commemoratives, capturing the public enthusiasm that accompanied his tour.
