“New York, New York…It’s a Wonderful World!” World Trade Center Button
American, circa 1979 — Diameter: 4 in.
A rare oversized pinback button depicting the New York skyline as it appeared in the late 1970s, centered on the World Trade Center towers and framed by the repeating slogan, “New York, New York… it’s a wonderful world!” The design features Citicorp Center, the Chrysler Building, the Twin Towers, and the Empire State Building in a clean graphic rendering that captures the city’s modern skyline at the close of the decade.
Documented in the Marshall Levin Collection, where the master example was noted “Gimbel’s Sept. 1979,” the button stands as a scarce and visually striking New York souvenir. With only three examples known, it is also a poignant surviving image of the Twin Towers as they appeared in the years before September 11.
