An engraved representation of the Royal Coat of Arms of King George III, the crowned shield supported by the lion and unicorn and surmounted by the royal crest within elaborate Rococo ornament. The inscription below reads: “George the Third by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France & Ireland &c.”
 
Issued early in the reign of George III, the print reflects the heraldic imagery used to assert royal authority throughout the British Empire. Such engravings were commonly displayed in official settings and circulated widely in printed works during the years following the Seven Years’ War as Britain expanded imperial administration across North America. Within a decade, tensions between Britain and the American colonies, fueled by measures such as the Stamp Act and the Townshend Duties, would escalate into the political crisis that led to the American Revolution.
