“Torch-Light Extra” Capture of Vera Cruz Broadside
Xenia, Ohio, April 12, 1847 - 6¾ x 19 inches

A rare and visually striking American broadside reporting the capture of Veracruz during the Mexican–American War. Issued as an “Extra” by the Torch-Light newspaper, the sheet features bold, emphatic typography above dense columns of contemporary reporting, conveying the immediacy of breaking war news as it reached the American public.

As a surviving large-format example, the present sheet offers a compelling artifact of wartime communication and public engagement in mid-nineteenth-century America.

Condition: Moderate toning, scattered foxing, and edge wear; a small loss at the lower right corner and minor handling creases.
