1963 March on Washington "Welcome Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." Ribbon

A rare welcome ribbon produced for the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, held in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963. The yellow silk ribbon is surmounted by a bright red paper rosette and boldly printed "Welcome Dr. Martin L. King Jr." in black lettering. Intended to honor King's arrival at the demonstration where he delivered his landmark "I Have a Dream" address, the ribbon is among the most desirable surviving souvenirs from one of the defining events of the Civil Rights Movement.
 
An image published by The New York Times on the anniversary of the March depicts a participant wearing this same ribbon, confirming its use during the event. Scarce in any condition, it is an evocative survivor from one of the most significant public gatherings in American history.
