Pair of George Washington Brass Curtain Tiebacks
Birmingham, England, circa 1800 - Diameter: 2⅛ inches
An exceptionally rare pair of brass curtain tiebacks depicting George Washington, produced in Birmingham for the American market. Comparable examples are held in the collection of the Winterthur Museum and are dated circa 1790–1810. The present pair may be placed within Washington’s presidential era, when his image was widely disseminated as a symbol of national leadership and identity. A scarce example reflecting the intersection of British manufacture and early American iconography.
Condition: Very fine; exhibiting typical wear.
