George Washington Bronze Relief Plaque

A finely cast French bronze relief plaque depicting George Washington in left-facing profile within an oval medallion. The plaque is preserved in its original gilt-bronze frame cast with a repeating acanthus-leaf motif and fitted with its original screw-on ring hanger, retaining three of the four original mounting pins.
 
Unmarked and retaining a superb, untouched surface, the plaque exhibits a rich natural patina. Works of this type reflect the enduring admiration for Washington in Europe following the American Revolution and the continued demand for his likeness among collectors and admirers abroad.
