A gilt brass button bearing an American eagle beneath seventeen stars and a ribbon inscribed “E Pluribus Unum.” Examples of this type are associated with diplomatic or elite militia use in the early Federal period and reflect the refined visual language through which the United States presented itself abroad.
Condition: Excellent; original shank intact.
