An English gilt profile plaque depicting George Washington in right-facing bust-length format, presented under glass within its original molded mahogany frame. The reverse retains the maker’s label for “Douglas, Carver, Gilder, & Picture Frame Maker, Bedford Place, Near the Polygon, Southampton,” reflecting contemporary framing practices and the transatlantic market for Washington iconography. Produced in the years surrounding Washington’s presidency, such profile likenesses illustrate the widespread dissemination of his image in both Britain and America, where he was regarded as a figure of considerable international stature.
 
Condition: Plaque excellent; minor irregularity to the background near the forehead.
