John Quincy Adams Lithographed Portrait
Published by Endicott & Swett, Baltimore, 1831 - Frame: 13 x 10½ inches; sight: 11 x 8½ inches
A lithographic portrait of John Quincy Adams, identified in the caption as the Sixth President of the United States, after a likeness by Gilbert Stuart. Issued by the prominent Baltimore lithographic firm Endicott & Swett in 1831, the print dates from the period shortly after Adams’s presidency and his election to the United States House of Representatives, where he would begin an extraordinary second career in national politics.
Portraits such as this reflect the expanding American market for images of prominent statesmen in the early nineteenth century and the continued public regard for Adams in the years following his presidency.
Condition: Very fine; not examined out of frame.
