Unlike the medals, ribbons, and printed ephemera more commonly associated with presidential inaugurations, this utilitarian object reflects the popular enthusiasm surrounding Harrison’s election and the celebratory culture that accompanied the inauguration of 1841.
 
Comparable commemorative objects are known for contemporaries such as Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay; the present example appears to be the only recorded object of this type associated with Harrison’s brief presidency.
