William Henry Harrison Log Cabin Campaign Shell Comb
Circa 1840 - Width: 3¾ inches; height: 3 inches
An outstanding molded shell comb featuring a finely detailed upper register with a log cabin, fenced landscape, and stylized floral elements, incorporating the inscription “G W M H Harrison.” Executed in warm amber-toned shell, the comb reflects the visual language of the 1840 presidential campaign, in which the log cabin served as a potent emblem of frontier virtue and popular appeal.
A distinctive and well-preserved example of early American political material culture from one of the nation’s first mass-driven campaigns.
