Grateful Dead and Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin — Fillmore Auditorium Concert Handbill
San Francisco, July 14, 1966
6¼ x 14 inches
An original concert advertising handbill printed on orange paper for an eclectic program presented at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco on Thursday evening, July 14, 1966. The bill featured performances by the Grateful Dead and Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, alongside the Hindustani Jazz Sextet, led by avant-garde trumpeter Don Ellis, who headlined the event.
The concert was presented by the Calliope Company under the title “A Pleasure Dome,” reflecting the experimental and cross-cultural musical programming characteristic of the San Francisco music scene during the mid-1960s. Events at the Fillmore Auditorium during this formative period helped establish the venue as one of the central stages of the emerging psychedelic and countercultural music movement.
Concert ephemera from these early Fillmore performances, particularly pieces featuring both the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin, remain highly desirable among collectors documenting the origins of the San Francisco rock scene.
Condition: Very fine, with creases and staple holes from period display.
